Stairway to Hell is one of the more appropriately titled hikes we have done. Although just about everyone has heard of Stairway to Heaven, Stairway to Hell is still surprisingly unknown. This hike sits right across Haikku Valley from Stairway to Heaven with the easiest/shortest route being Aiea Ridge to the Moanalua Saddle. If you have ever hiked any part of the saddle before, you understand this hike is no joke.
Start up the Aiea Ridge up the Upper Loop. The Lower Loop will still get you there but just take you a bit longer. Once at the summit of Aiea you will have reached the Ko'olau Summit Trail (KST), and are about 2 hours away from the top of the stairs. From here, its pretty tough to get lost. Just follow the ridge line towards H3. This is the sketchiest part of the hike however, with lots ups and downs and steep cliffs.
You'll know you've made it to the top of the stairs when you see the H3 and the couple pill boxes at the top of the stairs. Go down the stairs with caution. They are in incredibly decrepit shape and should really not be trusted. They could realistically fall off at any point in certain sections.
Bring Extra Water
This hike is tougher and hotter than you're expecting. Be prepared.
